Pilot safety and SIV training course – David Eyraud

MEMO

B-line stall

Keep the brake handles in your hands:

  • either at the bottom of the handle,
  • or as a bracelet around your wrist.

Grab the top of the B-risers by passing two fingers between the B-lines, as if you were holding onto a fixed bar.

Pull firmly, symmetrically, but not too widely (10cm to start) while looking at the canopy.

If the glider is stable, look forward at the landscape and observe:

  • absence of glide (glide ratio 0),
  • sink rate between -5 and -7 m/s,
  • lack of wind on your face.

In case of a croissant shape (wingtips moving forward) there is a risk of cravat: give a short timed 50cm brake input!

To exit:
Release fairly quickly while guiding the movement.
Observe the surge but don’t catch!
Focus on the relative wind returning to your face.
