Pilot safety and SIV training course – David Eyraud
MEMO
Frontal Collapse
Hook both brake handles onto the risers.
Grab all the A lines (front lines) on each side, including the ear lines, by grasping the small maillons between your thumb and index finger (at the top of the risers), thumb on top.
Pull quickly and slightly diagonally towards your navel, then release immediately. Retrieve the brake handles immediately. Observe the wing and diagnose:
- How does the wing reopen (or not)?
- Is it inflated (lower surface bulging) or not?
- Is there wind in your face?
Perform several collapses: small ones, then larger ones (by pulling faster and lower).
In case of a croissant shape: apply a short timed brake input!
In case of a sticky frontal: apply a short timed brake input!:
In case of a parachutal stall (deep stall) with ears: keep hands up, wait… If the parachutal stall lasts too long: apply a short timed brake input!
